About This Itinerary

Muscat is a city of extraordinary contrasts — where incense drifts through labyrinthine souqs, world-class opera sits beside a thousand-year-old fort, and fifteen minutes offshore, turtles glide through some of the clearest water in the Arabian Sea. This curated weekend packs the very best of the Omani capital into three unhurried, beautifully sequenced days.

Airport Transfers & Getting Around

Option A — Fully Guided: Private airport pickup on arrival Friday, all transfers included throughout the tour, and a drop-off at Muscat International Airport after the Daymaniyat Islands on Sunday. No driving required — just arrive and enjoy. Option B — Self-Drive: Drive yourself to your hotel on Friday evening and return independently after the Sunday half-day island excursion. All stops are within easy reach along Muscat's well-signed coastal roads.
DAY 1 — Friday

Arrival & First Impressions

Arrive in Muscat ✈️

Touch down at Muscat International Airport — one of the Gulf's most elegant terminals. Whether you've arranged a private transfer or rented a car, the drive along the coastal highway into the city is a quietly spectacular introduction to Oman's landscape of rock, sea, and light.

Your Hotel for the Night

Drop your bags and freshen up before dinner. Your accommodation is one of Muscat's finest — chosen to reflect the city's characteristic blend of Omani warmth and international comfort.

20:00

Bab Sharqi

Your Muscat weekend begins at Bab Sharqi — a beautifully decorated restaurant on 18th November Street that blends Syrian and Levantine flavours with Omani hospitality. The space is dramatic: soaring ceilings, intricate details, and an outdoor terrace perfect for warm Muscat evenings. Don't miss the beetroot & pomegranate salad, chicken shawarma with chickpeas, or the showstopping Omani Mansaf. Prices are remarkably generous for the quality on offer.

Muscat City Tour with Private Guide

8:30

Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque

Begin your day at one of the Islamic world's most celebrated architectural achievements. The Grand Mosque can accommodate 20,000 worshippers and houses one of the world's largest hand-woven Persian carpets. Arrive early — the light through the marble courtyard in the morning is something you won't forget. Dress modestly; your guide will brief you on etiquette before entry. Open to visitors Saturday–Thursday, 8–11 AM.

Fish Market (Muttrah Fish Souk)

Head to the waterfront fish market — a vivid, fragrant, and utterly authentic slice of Muscat daily life. Fishermen bring in their catch from the Sea of Oman every morning. It's colour, activity, and sensory overload in the best possible way.

Old Town Muscat (Al Alam Palace & Surroundings)

The old walled city of Muscat is one of the Gulf's great historic districts. Your guide will take you through the Al Alam Palace — the ceremonial home of His Majesty Sultan Haitham — framed by the twin 16th-century Portuguese forts of Al Jalali and Al Mirani. The palace facade of gold and deep blue against the mountain backdrop is iconic.

Muttrah Fort

Climb to one of Muscat's oldest defensive structures for commanding panoramic views over the corniche, the old harbour, and the mountains beyond. Built by the Portuguese in the 16th century, the fort is a compelling reminder of Muscat's strategic importance across the centuries.

Rozna Restaurant

An evening at Rozna feels like stepping into an Omani family home from another century. The setting is theatrical — private majlis rooms, carved wooden screens, traditional floor seating — and the food is rooted deeply in Omani culinary tradition. Slow-cooked meats, aromatic rice, and dishes that have been perfected over generations. One of the most atmospheric dining experiences Muscat offers.

Snorkelling, Swimming & Wildlife

The Daymaniyat Islands are a UNESCO-recognised nature reserve and one of the most important nesting grounds for sea turtles in the Indian Ocean. Snorkel through fields of staghorn coral, encounter hawksbill turtles gliding peacefully below, and drift above reef ecosystems teeming with parrotfish, lionfish, and eagle rays. The water is extraordinarily clear — visibility routinely exceeds 15 metres.
