In most parts of the world, we talk about four seasons. But in Oman, our calendar is dictated by the blooming of roses, the harvesting of pomegranates, and the arrival of the mist. To travel to Oman is to follow the rhythm of the land.

Whether you are a foodie, a nature lover, or an adventurer, here is your month-by-month guide to the "Hidden Seasons" of the Sultanate.

🌸 The Season of Blooms (February – May) 🇴🇲

Spring in Oman is a sensory explosion. As the winter chill fades, the mountains and high-altitude villages transform.

  • Apricot Blossoms (Feb – March): Head to the terraced village of Wakan. The entire mountainside turns white and pink with delicate blossoms. It is Oman’s version of the Cherry Blossom season.
  • The Rose Water Harvest (March – May): The Jebel Akhdar (Green Mountain) smells like heaven. This is when the famous Damask roses bloom. You can watch local families harvest the petals and distill them into world-renowned Omani rose water.
    • Note: The 2026 Rose Festival officially kicks off on March 30.
  • The Honey Season (March – June): This is the peak time for wild honey collection in the Hajar Mountains. Omani honey is prized globally for its purity and medicinal properties.

🍃 The Emerald Escape (June – September)

While the rest of the Arabian Peninsula experiences high heat, two very different "harvests" are happening in Oman.

  • The Khareef in Dhofar (June 21 – Sept 21): While the north is sunny, the southern region of Salalah enters its "Fall." A gentle mist covers the mountains, waterfalls appear out of nowhere, and the entire landscape turns a brilliant, tropical green.
  • The Fruit Harvests (August – September): Back in the mountains of the interior, it is time for the Pomegranate Harvest. These are some of the finest pomegranates in the world. Simultaneously, you’ll find the Grape Harvesting season in full swing.

🐫 The Season of Heritage & Sea (October – March)

As the weather cools across the entire country, the focus shifts to the coast and desert traditions.

  • The "Sarb" Season (Late Sept onwards): After the mist of the Khareef clears in Salalah, the "Spring" season (locally known as Sarb) begins. The mountains remain lush and flowers begin to carpet the plains.
  • Camel Racing Season (November – March): The "Sport of Kings." This is the best time to witness the adrenaline and heritage of camel racing in Muscat, Salalah, and the desert interior.
  • The Safilah Fishing (December): For just a few days in December, the "Shale Season" arrives in Dhofar. It’s a rare window for harvesting a prized, local seafood species—a true delicacy for food enthusiasts.

🏺 Unique Cultural Windows

  • Frankincense Harvest (April – June): In the Dhofar governorate, ancient trees are tapped for their "tears of gold." You can witness the traditional stages of collecting and drying the world’s finest incense.
  • Tabasil Al-Fagur (Late June – July): A fascinating summer tradition where specific varieties of dates are boiled in large cauldrons and sun-dried. It’s a community event that shows the deep bond between Omani people and their palm trees.
